A rare win for the SPND marketing department

Like a cruise missile trying to evade an air defence system, the SPND organisation generally prefers to fly below the radar. That's a sensible choice. Iran's leadership is still trying to downplay the decade-old revelations about what SPND got up to in the bad old days of Iran's pre-2004 nuclear weapons programme.

So it's a rare treat when Redline can give kudos to the underworked members of SPND's marketing department, who generally have to pass their days playing Tetris and answering prank calls on the SPND hotline (which you can reach on +98-21-22974501.)

Today is such a day! The plaudits arise from SPND's sterling work on 22 August, when President Rouhani visited the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics (وزارت دفاع و پشتیبانی نیروهای مسلح جمهوری اسلامی ایران) for Iran's annual Defence Industry Day. Rouhani was there to unveil the Fateh-313, a new variant of Iran's short-range Fateh ballistic missile.

Rouhani turned up to MODAFL HQ to a literal red-carpet reception:

There was even an ambulance waiting in the back in case things got a bit too exciting.

Now, look closely at that picture and you can see this:

That's the SPND logo!

Not convinced? Here's a better angle:

Some priceless publicity there for Fakhrizadeh and his team. Although it's not all good news - Redline is amused by the thought that President Rouhani has quite literally turned his back on SPND.

Not a bad decision at all!
